Beaver Creek Resort was opened in December 1980 as a master-planned sister to Vail Resort. Located only 7 miles from Vail Village and always managed under common ownership with Vail Resort, skiers are always free to ski at either resort with a single lift ticket or pass.
Beaver Creek Resort and Vail Resort are both consistently ranked within the top five ski resorts in North America, ostensibly within the world. Vail usually occupies the top spot on "Ski Magazine" rankings due to its vast terrain, with Beaver Creek ranked closely behind.
The general reputations of the two mountains are that Vail offers more ski terrain than any other resort in the world...while Beaver Creek offers a higher percentage of groomed terrain and attracts a more family-oriented crowd. Both ski resorts offer widely varied terrain for all levels of skiers. Each resort centers around European-inspired Alpine Villages that have become renowned around the world for their charm, beauty and retail amenities.
Most residents pick one of the communities to live within, while making both villages and both mountains part of their daily lives. The Vail Valley is rich with outdoor amenities of all kinds including equestrian centers, hiking trails, raging rapids, vast fishing and hunting areas, and more than a dozen public and private golf courses.
Although residents are usually attracted to the region for the winter recreation, they fall in love with the Vail Valley for the summers.
